Art Dominey Obituary


Arthur Hugh Dominey


89, Louisbourg
It is with great sadness that we, the family announce the passing of Arthur Hugh Dominey which occurred Nov. 22, 2006, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Burgeo, N.L., he was the son of the late Charles and Sophie (James) Dominey.
Art was a veteran of the Second World War serving in the merchant navy. Later he worked for the Quebec and Ontario Trans¬portation Co. as a wheelsman on the Great Lakes ships. He retired in 1982.
He was a member of the Mariners Lodge No. 80 and a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62.
Art will be remembered for his large Christmas displays that included many models of naval ships. He will be missed by family and many good friends.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary (Maclntyre) Dominey; son, Arthur
Jr. and two daughters, Sandra and Darlene (Albert); six grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; one sister, Cassie, Montreal; and one brother Fred, Burgeo.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by four sisters, Sophie, Mary, Meg and Eva and three brothers, Charles, Ward and Hubert.
Visitation for the late Art Dominey will take place today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the First United Church, Louisbourg. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25 at the First United Church, with Mr. Darius Powell LPMiT officiating. Burial to follow in Willow Grove Cemetery, Louisbourg.

Last Post Art Dominey

Arthur Dominey
was born in Burgeo NF April 16th 1917. He Joined The Merchant Marine in 1940 transferred to the army for 4 months and asked to be returned to the Merchant Marine. He first served on the S.S Mariposa, in a convoy of 46 ships and 5 lost. He also served on the The Lord Kelvin and Galarite and he served as boson on the Evelyn B. The Evelyn B escaped as several ships were torpedoed in Wabana NF and helped rescue survivors. He Joined the Legion in 1947 and was bartender for many years. He is noted for his large Folk Art renditions of various ships
